Day Four (of 31 Daily Reminders)

Who God Is…

God is unchangeable!  (Immutable)

[The God who is unchangeable became a human being out of love for you and me!]

Who I am/we are in Christ…

I am adopted!

“In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”
Eph 1:5

His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His family, as His sons and daughters, through Jesus Christ. And this gave Him great pleasure!

[From eternity He chose us to be His own children…I, {state your name}, am His adopted son!]

His promises for me/us today…

Jesus said, “I AM the Bread of Life, he who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”
Jn 6:35

Jesus said, “I Myself AM the Bread of Life, whoever comes to Me will never be hungry, whoever believes in Me will never thirst.

[God fed His people manna in the wilderness to sustain them. He provided bread for the prophet Elijah. Here, Jesus promises us spiritual food – He alone is able to satisfy that hunger and thirst. “Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.” “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God…The Lord gives me, {state your name}, Jesus, the True Bread from heaven.]

Jesus said, “I AM the Light of the World, whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Jn 8:12

Jesus said, “I AM the Light of the World, whoever follows Me will have a life filled with Light, and will no longer stumble around in the darkness.”

[The darkness of sin is ever-increasing. It is easy even for Christian people to stumble around in places of darkness…I, {state your name}, as a Jesus follower have been called out of the darkness to live in His marvelous light. His Word is a light to my path. I am on “light” duty!]

Jesus said, “I AM the gate for the sheep, whoever enters through me will be saved.” Jn 10:7, 9

Jesus said, “I assure you, I Am the Door; yes, I Am the gate for the sheep, all who enter the safety of the sheep pen through Me will be saved.

[The sheep pen is the place of safety for the sheep. They can only get in through the gate under the watchful eye of the shepherd… I, {state your name}, am one of Jesus’ sheep. The only way for me to enter heaven is under the watchful eye of the Good Shepherd!]

Jesus said, “I AM the Good Shepherd, the Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
Jn 10:11

Jesus said, “I Am the Good Shepherd, the Good Shepherd is willing to lay down His life for His sheep.” “My sheep hear My voice and they follow Me.”

[Sheep are so helpless and gullible; their very lives depend on the shepherd…Jesus was willing to lay down His life for me, {state your name}.]

His callings/my vocations…

As you reflect on these words from the Lord, what do you sense God calling you to be or to do? How do these words and promises from the Lord speak to you today with the particular joys and struggles that are part of your life and life of faith?

Think of the people who are closest to you in the vocations He has given you?  [husband/wife; family; friends; neighbors; others]. What are some of the “take aways” from these verses that you could share with them to encourage or support them in the challenges they face as they live in this broken world?

Now take a moment to pray, using the words of some of these Scriptures to shape your prayer, as you pray them back to Him. Pray them specifically for those things that you or those you love are dealing with today!

This is from the devotional tool, “31 Daily Reminders”, that I have designed to help you begin each day aware of Who God Is, of Who We Are In Christ, of His Promises That Sustain and Empower Us, and of the Various Callings/ Vocations He Has Given Us.  If you would like a hard copy of these devotions, just let me know!
