Maundy Thursday Devotional
REFLECT
Maundy Thursday is about remembering. Jesus gathered with His disciples that evening to celebrate the Passover. As they shared the meal they remembered God’s grace to them.
Take time to remember the Passover event. You can read about it in Exodus 12:1-39.
As they celebrated the Passover, Jesus took the opportunity to institute the Sacrament of Communion. You can read about that night in Matthew 26:17-30; Mark 14:12-26; Luke 22:7-20. As you read, remember the Lord’s body broken for you and His blood spilled for you. Remember the times you have joined God’s people to share this precious meal and anticipate when we will gather to share it once again.
CONNECT
Late in the evening our Lord took time to go to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray with His inner circle of disciples.
Take time to pray for your inner circle of family and friends. As you remember each one by name pray for them:
- Pray that they love God completely in heart, soul, mind and strength.
- Pray that they come to know Jesus and have a personal relationship with Him as their Savior and Lord.
- Pray that they see themselves from God’s perspective: as a beloved child of God, from the perspective of grace, not works (constantly striving to do more, try harder).
- Pray that their lives are characterized by the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22).
- Pray that they love others as they are compassionately loved by You.
- Pray that they would be used by You in the vocations You have given them.
