Day Twenty-Two (of 31 Daily Reminders)
Who God Is…
God is Omniscient! (All-knowing; wise)
[The God who knows all – even that we would crucify His Son – sent Him anyway out of love for you! Christ, who knew the evil hearts of men, humbled Himself to their evil intentions when they led Him to the cross]
Who I am/we are in Christ…
I am His workmanship!
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance that we should walk in them.”
Eph 2:10
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that our lives can be filled with all the good things He long ago planned for us to do.
[We are God’s work of art – at the touch of the Master’s hand, He takes common resources and shapes us so that we can be all He plans for us to be. As others see His work in and through us, the Artist gets the praise… I, {state your name}, in my life show the evidence of God’s work in me.]
“All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the person of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Tim 3:16-17
God given us His inspired Word, the Bible, into which He has breathed life, so that it is useful for teaching us His truth, for showing us our faults, for getting us back on His path, and for training us for right living so that we are fully qualified and equipped to do all the good things He has planned for us to do.
[God’s Word is both the tool used by God to prepare me for service and the equipment I use as I live out my Christian life… He has breathed life into His Word so that it comes alive for me, {state your name}, as I abide in it and thus bear much fruit.]
His promises for me/us today…
“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.”
Isa 12:2
Look! God has come to save me; I am confident in Him and do not need to be afraid. The Lord, the Lord Himself is my strength and my song; He is my Savior.
[Amazing grace: God Himself becomes our savior! We can be confident in Him and His promises. We no longer need to fear His judgment. Salvation is ours because of what He has done. The cross is my proof. The empty tomb is our guarantee. Such a promise is our strength when we feel weak… Such a promise makes me, {state your name}, want to sing the songs of Easter.]
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.”
Ps 34:8
Taste and see that the Lord is good in all He does. Oh, the joys of those who put their trust in Him and His promises.
[O the joy we experience as we get a taste of the new life that He has for us! It is like savoring a well prepared meal and thinking to yourself, “life doesn’t get any better than this!”… I, {state your name}, have tasted of His goodness and find myself satisfied.]
“Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”
2 Cor 4:16-18
For this reason we never become discouraged or give up. Even though our physical being is gradually decaying, our spiritual being is renewed every day. Our present troubles are quite small and won’t last long — especially when compared to the eternal glory in heaven that will be so much greater and will last forever.
[In this life you and I experience all the consequences of our broken, fallen world: sickness, sorrow, suffering, pain, death. In the life to come those things that cause us so much struggle and heartache in this life, will all be gone. We can’t even begin to imagine what that will be like! … I, {state your name}, am but a stranger here, heaven is my home!]
His callings/my vocations…
As you reflect on these words from the Lord, what do you sense God calling you to be or to do? How do these words and promises from the Lord speak to you today with the particular joys and struggles that are part of your life and life of faith?
Think of the people who are closest to you in the vocations He has given you? [husband/wife; family; friends; neighbors; others]. What are some of the “take-aways” from these verses that you could share with them to encourage or support them in the challenges they face as they live in this broken world?
Now take a moment to pray, using the words of some of these Scriptures to shape your prayer, as you pray them back to Him. Pray them specifically for those things that you or those you love are dealing with today!
This is from the devotional tool, “31 Daily Reminders”, that I have designed to help you begin each day aware of Who God Is, of Who We Are In Christ, of His Promises That Sustain and Empower Us, and of the Various Callings/ Vocations He Has Given Us. If you would like a hard copy of these devotions, just let me know!
