Day Twenty-One (of 31 Daily Reminders)
Who God Is…
God is Omnipotent, Almighty, All-powerful!
[The God who is Omnipotent, Almighty, All-powerful came into this world of ours, not as a mighty conqueror but as a vulnerable human baby. He became weak so that we could be strong!]
Who I am/we are in Christ…
I am blessed!
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ.”
Eph 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! He has given us every spiritual benefit that the heavenly realms have to offer because we belong to Christ.
[By God’s grace we have been abundantly blessed because of our relationship to Christ Jesus. We are blessed not because of who we are or because of the things we have done – We are blessed because of Who He is and all He has done for us! … I, {state your name}, am truly blessed by God!]
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”
Jer 17:7
But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made Him their hope and their confidence!
[This makes me think of Heb 4:15 “Therefore, let us enter the throne of grace with confidence, that we may receive mercy and grace to help us in our time of need.”… I, {state your name}, have been invited to live life with the confidence of a son.]
His promises for me/us today…
“And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.”
Rom 5:3-5
This doesn’t mean of course that we have only a confident hope of future joys – we can be full of joy here and now – even in our trials and troubles. These very things will train us for patient endurance; this in turn will develop a mature character, and a character of this sort produces a steady hope – a confident expectation – that will not disappoint us.
[Happiness is dependent on circumstances; joy flows out of our relationship with Jesus… Because of Jesus, I, {state your name}, am able to rejoice – even when suffering or trials come.]
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Jn 14:27
I’m leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. I’m giving you My peace. It is nothing like the peace that the world gives. So don’t be troubled or cowardly.
[Christ’s peace that stands guard over my mind when my thoughts are racing and over my heart when all my emotions are stirred up! … I, {state your name}, can have His peace that sustains me.]
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”
Heb 6:19
This confident hope of being saved is an anchor for our hearts, trustworthy and secure.
[When our roots are deeply grounded in Christ and in His Word, we will be able to withstand any storms that come – just like a ship that is securely anchored.]
His callings/my vocations…
As you reflect on these words from the Lord, what do you sense God calling you to be or to do? How do these words and promises from the Lord speak to you today with the particular joys and struggles that are part of your life and life of faith?
Think of the people who are closest to you in the vocations He has given you? [husband/wife; family; friends; neighbors; others]. What are some of the “take aways” from these verses that you could share with them to encourage or support them in the challenges they face as they live in this broken world?
Now take a moment to pray, using the words of some of these Scriptures to shape your prayer, as you pray them back to Him. Pray them specifically for those things that you or those you love are dealing with today!
This is from the devotional tool, “31 Daily Reminders”, that I have designed to help you begin each day aware of Who God Is, of Who We Are In Christ, of His Promises That Sustain and Empower Us, and of the Various Callings/ Vocations He Has Given Us. If you would like a hard copy of these devotions, just let me know!
