Day Nineteen (of 31 Daily Reminders)
Who God Is…
God is unchangeable! (Immutable)
[The God who is unchangeable became a human being out of love for you and me!]
Who I am/we are in Christ…
I am adopted!
“In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”
Eph 1:5
His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His family, as His sons and daughters, through Jesus Christ. And this gave Him great pleasure!
[From eternity He chose us to be His own children…I, {state your name}, am His adopted son!]
His promises for me/us today…
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”
Ps 46: 1-3
God is our Refuge and Strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we do not have to fear – even if earthquakes come and mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble at the surging waves. (God is in control!)
[Our world broken and out of control. Our lives are often the same. But no matter how difficult it gets, God is still in control and He never stops loving us… His invitation is for me, {state your name}, to be still and know that He is God and is at work in my life and in my world!)
“My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Cor 12:9
My gracious favor is enough for you; it’s all you need. My power is perfect for weak people.
[When I, {state your name}, am feeling weak, overwhelmed, inadequate, those are the best times for me to look to His strength to sustain me.]
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Rom 8:38-39
For I am thoroughly convinced that nothing can ever separate me from His love. Death can’t and life can’t. The angels won’t and all the powers of hell itself can’t keep God’s love away. Our fears for today, our worries for tomorrow, or where we are – high above the sky or in the deepest ocean – nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when He died for us!
[God Himself loves me, {state your name}. There is nothing or no one that can ever get between me and His love!]
His callings/my vocations…
As you reflect on these words from the Lord, what do you sense God calling you to be or to do? How do these words and promises from the Lord speak to you today with the particular joys and struggles that are part of your life and life of faith?
Think of the people who are closest to you in the vocations He has given you? [husband/wife; family; friends; neighbors; others]. What are some of the “take aways” from these verses that you could share with them to encourage or support them in the challenges they face as they live in this broken world?
Now take a moment to pray, using the words of some of these Scriptures to shape your prayer, as you pray them back to Him. Pray them specifically for those things that you or those you love are dealing with today!
This is from the devotional tool, “31 Daily Reminders”, that I have designed to help you begin each day aware of Who God Is, of Who We Are In Christ, of His Promises That Sustain and Empower Us, and of the Various Callings/ Vocations He Has Given Us. If you would like a hard copy of these devotions, just let me know!
