Day Nine (of 31 Daily Reminders)

Who God Is…

God is Holy! (sinless and hating sin)

[The holy Son of God took our sin upon Himself and bore it to the cross because He loved us!]

Who I am/we are in Christ…

I am a saint!

“Praise the Lord you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing.”
Ps 34:9

Taste and see that the Lord is good! …Let the Lord’s holy people, His saints, who belong to Him, praise Him! Those who reverence Him will not be lacking!

[The Lord provides for His people; He gives all that we need and more! … For all His benefits to me, I, {state your name}, will give Him praise.]

“We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
Heb 10;10

We have been set apart as holy (clean from all sin) because Jesus Christ did what God wanted Him to do by sacrificing Himself for us, once and for all.

[Holy means to be consecrated, set apart, for God’s holy purpose…I, {state your name}, am by His grace a saint set apart to be and do all He has planned for me.]

His promises for me/us today…

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Behold, the old is gone, the new has come.”
2 Cor 5:17

As a result of being in Christ, a believer is a new creation (a brand new person inside); the old way of life is bound in the past (it is finished; it is gone) and a whole new way of living has already begun.

[Baptism! The daily dying and rising, putting off the old and putting on the new has begun. We still may have to work through the things that have happened in the past and we will still have the civil war between our old and new natures going on within us, but in Christ we are being transformed by the renewing of our minds…I, {state your name}, am a new creation in Christ Jesus!]

“God made him to be sin who knew no sin, that we might become the righteousness of God.”
2 Cor 5:21

God made Christ Jesus who was sinless, to be sin for us (to be our sin offering), so that because He bore our sin, in exchange we have been made right with God!

[The Great Exchange: Christ took our sins (actually became sin for us so that we could be righteous in Him…Christ took my sins, He became sin for me so that I, {state your name}, could be set free from sin and its consequences in Him.]

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.”
Rom 8:1

The truth is that no condemnation now hangs over the head of those who belong to Christ Jesus. For the new principle of life in Christ has lifted and continues to lift me out of the old vicious cycle of sin & death.

[Christ has set us free! Our sin’s power to condemn us has been removed. Our Advocate speaks in our defense. The life-giving Spirit, through the Gospel, enables us to do what the law kept us from doing. Christ has broken us out of the vicious cycle of sin that constantly brings us to death…Thanks be to God, who gives me, {state your name}, victory over sin and death through my Lord and Savior, Jesus.]

His callings/my vocations…

As you reflect on these words from the Lord, what do you sense God calling you to be or to do? How do these words and promises from the Lord speak to you today with the particular joys and struggles that are part of your life and life of faith?

Think of the people who are closest to you in the vocations He has given you?  [husband/wife; family; friends; neighbors; others]. What are some of the “take aways” from these verses that you could share with them to encourage or support them in the challenges they face as they live in this broken world?

Now take a moment to pray, using the words of some of these Scriptures to shape your prayer, as you pray them back to Him. Pray them specifically for those things that you or those you love are dealing with today!

This is from the devotional tool, “31 Daily Reminders”, that I have designed to help you begin each day aware of Who God Is, of Who We Are In Christ, of His Promises That Sustain and Empower Us, and of the Various Callings/ Vocations He Has Given Us.  If you would like a hard copy of these devotions, just let me know!
