Day Eleven (of 31 Daily Reminders)
Who God Is…
God is Faithful! (He keeps His promises)
[God proved His Faithfulness by doing the unthinkable: the Creator dying for His creatures’ sins!]
Who I am/we are in Christ…
I am an heir of heaven !
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but shall have everlasting lIfe.”
Jn 3:16
For God loved the people of this world (who He had created) so much that He gave the very life of His own Son (to redeem and restore them), so that whoever believes in Jesus, will not be separated from God for eternity, but will have life with Him forever.
[This is the very essence of the Gospel; the focus of the Scriptures. God out of love sacrificed the life of His Son so that we could have life abundant and eternal…. For God so loved {state your name}…]
“And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life. And this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; He who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
1 Jn 5:11-12
This is the testimony of God (He has gone on record): He has given us life and this real life is only to be found in His Son. Anyone who has Christ, has this life; whoever does not believe in the Son of God does not have this life at all.
[There is no middle ground – either you have the Son or you don’t. No Christ, no life; know Christ, know life! … I can be confident that I, {state your name}, have eternal life because God has gone on record in His Word promising new life to all who believe in His Son Jesus. This new life is found nowhere else! Apart from Christ I have nothing at all and can do nothing to save myself from the consequences of my sin. My testimony begins and is founded on the testimony of God Himself.]
His promises for me/us today…
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape that you may be able to endure it.”
1 Cor 10:13
Remember that the temptations that come into your life (that you can expect!) are no different from what others experience. But God is faithful to His promise: He will not let you be tested more than you can stand, because when the trial comes, He will provide the way of escape that you will be able to patiently endure it.
[Sin and temptation are not new. The evil one knows us well enough to know just how to get to us. In that spiritual battle with in us, God is on our side! He is even there when we have blown it, to renew us for future tests. He will not let us be tempted and tested beyond what He can bear… (what I, {state your name}, can bear according to His strength).]
“But if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 Jn 1:9
If we confess (freely admit that we have sinned), God is faithful – He will keep His promise to do what is right (what He has obligated Himself to do): He will forgive our sins and purify us from all that is sinful within us (in our thinking, speaking and doing).
[The forgiveness of sins is not dependent on our confession but rather on His promise to forgive. He is reliable and can be depended upon to do exactly what He has promised to do. Not only does He forgive our past sins, but He also works within us to thoroughly cleanse us from all wrong doing. Forgiveness – done! Ongoing cleansing – process of sanctification! Both are God’s work in us…. God has forgiven me, {state your name}, and is in the process of making me new.]
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is Thy faithfulness, O Lord.”
Lam 3:22-23
The Lord’s mercy cannot be depleted; His compassion is not limited. His mercies begin afresh every morning. His faithfulness is great!
[God is an inexhaustible source of love and mercy. The supply will never run out. Every morning is an opportunity for a new beginning! … When my cup gets low, I, {state your name}, can have it refilled. My quiet time each morning is a time to drink deeply of His living water!]
His callings/my vocations…
As you reflect on these words from the Lord, what do you sense God calling you to be or to do? How do these words and promises from the Lord speak to you today with the particular joys and struggles that are part of your life and life of faith?
Think of the people who are closest to you in the vocations He has given you? [husband/wife; family; friends; neighbors; others]. What are some of the “take aways” from these verses that you could share with them to encourage or support them in the challenges they face as they live in this broken world?
Now take a moment to pray, using the words of some of these Scriptures to shape your prayer, as you pray them back to Him. Pray them specifically for those things that you or those you love are dealing with today!
This is from the devotional tool, “31 Daily Reminders”, that I have designed to help you begin each day aware of Who God Is, of Who We Are In Christ, of His Promises That Sustain and Empower Us, and of the Various Callings/ Vocations He Has Given Us. If you would like a hard copy of these devotions, just let me know!
